The Work of the Church Around the World

Mission Moments

One of our aims as a denomination and as a Conference is for active involvement and awareness of our mission work in the world. We are connected with the Slovakian Annual Conference so that we are in relationship with the global work of the denomination and we have close relationships with missionaries, who are also a part of the MidSouth Conference, and the GMC approved organizations they participate. Several of these missions and missionaries were introduced to the MidSouth as we prepped for our Annual Conference in June 2024. Mike and Sherri Morrissey were two of those missionaries who serve in ministry with Thailand Now.

The work of Thailand Now includes the Blessing Home Centers program to work in partnership with local churches in prevention for at-risk children from being trafficked in the sex and drug trades. They do this by providing scholarships for children to go to school (uniforms, food, transportation, medical assistance); after-school instruction in Bible and life skills; tutoring in English and other school subjects; home visits; training for guardians, and foster-care support as needed. Another program is the Pioneer Pastor Program to plant churches in unreached areas of Thailand. The current situation holds that 73% of sub-districts in Thailand have no church at all and only 6% of the villages have been reached with the gospel (data compiled from eStar Foundation). A third program of Thailand Now is the Abundant Life Financial Program to provide leader training and Biblically-based resources, to establish church-based savings groups and build financial management skills. Families are able to grow in their financial strength, ending their slavery to debt, to discover the freedom to serve the Lord and to be generous to others.

Mike and Sherri Morrissey, both active members of the MidSouth Annual Conference and chairing our Missions Committee, invite you to experience the work of God in Thailand by sharing updates on their blog and reading their most recent praise report of opening the Abundant Life Training Center. We hope you will tune in to this work by signing up to receive their blog. You may not be called to serve in Thailand though there are ways you can participate in this work from your home and in your congregations through networking, prayer, service in the kingdom, and financial support.
