Connected in Christ in Costa Rica

A Word from the MidSouth

How amazing it has been to see Global Methodists from around the world gather together in Costa Rica—to worship together, and to seek the guidance of the Holy Spirit as we seek to discern God’s will for our church.

In the Wesleyan tradition, we like to use the word “connected” or “connectional,” and we are connectional people. I like to use the word “community,” but those terms convey the same truth that we are connected in spiritual community, and we need each other if we are to be faithful in spreading the gospel which has been entrusted to us for this age.

Community—being connected—is critically important. Jesus taught the importance of spiritual community. Our Lord said that where two or three are gathered in his name, he is with us. Jesus instructed us to be light, to love and pray for others, and to give to the needy. He saw value in breaking bread together, and he prayed that we would be unified in him. In Costa Rica we have been reminded that we have much to be thankful for together, that our hope transcends this world and lies in Christ, and that we can trust God. What a joy it has been to be connected to our brothers and sisters in Christ in Costa Rica. May we be found faithful. Thanks be to God!
