A Moment with Mike June 2025

From the Desk of

I sensed the call to help organize the Global Methodist Church in Kentucky in October 2022 as clear as any word I ever received from the Lord. Asked to take on this task by my colleagues also was a tremendous honor. Likewise, toward the end of 2024, I clearly heard the Lord again, this time with an assurance that I had accomplished what I had been called/asked to do. The MidSouth Annual Conference is in good hands, fully functional and widely engaged in mission and ministry in more than 270 churches across five states. It is time for me to step aside and pass the torch to more gifted, deeply devoted and younger leaders emerging from across the MidSouth Annual Conference.

Thank you all for the wonderful privilege of participating in the growth, development, and witness of the GMC across our streets and around the world over the past 32 months. The greatest joy of this ministry has been the opportunity to meet, worship, and work with ‘the salt of the earth’ scattered around the MidSouth – faithful disciples who love Jesus and love all that He loves, a loyal staff that regularly goes the second mile to serve the needs of the Conference, and our Presiding Elders and clergy/lay leaders who are passionately devoted to discerning the leading of the Holy Spirit. I loved listening to your stories, hopes and dreams; preaching to souls hungry for the Word of God; praying with saints who carry the burdens of the world to the throne of grace; consulting with you as you seek to know and do God’s will; experiencing your grace and receiving your mercy when I faltered; daring to walk together across this bridge while it is being built.

When asked what my role is in the GMC, I often respond that I have a 10-word job description: “Helping people find their place in the Kingdom of God.” I am grateful for the opportunity to do that with churches and pastors, believers and seekers, sinners and saints over these 2+ years. As I think of your Kingdom work continuing across the streets in the MidSouth and around the world, the apostle Paul’s affectionate words for the Philippian Church come to mind:

I thank my God every time I remember you. In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.  (Philippians 1:3-6, NIV).

Glory to God, and thank you.
