Certified Lay Ministry Course: Congregational Care & Ethics
October 24 @ 9:00 am - 4:00 pm

October 24 @ 9:00 am - 4:00 pm
Cost: $20
The Congregational Care & Ethics course helps participants recognize and provide effective, compassionate care to their churches. This discussion-based course uses both lecture and group participation to discern not only what good, effective care looks like, but also how to incorporate it into specific and varied ministry settings. The course will explore the Biblical, theological, and practical considerations that undergird excellence in congregational care.
Prior to the course, students will read The Wounded Healer by Henri J.M. Nouwen and write a 2-3 page reflection paper that includes the following:
- How does the following scripture relate to the concept of “The Wounded Healer” as presented by Henri Nouwen?
“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God. For just as we share abundantly in the sufferings of Christ, so also our comfort abounds through Christ.” I Corinthians 1:3-5
- How have you personally experienced the healing of Jesus in your life in one specific area of concern? How has that experience informed the way you offer comfort and care to others?
Participants will email their reflections to the instructor, Rev. Sami Wilson, prior to class at sami@christchurchbg.org. This preparation will help participant come to class ready to talk about their own experiences receiving congregational care and how that impacts the kind of care they want to provide.
CLM Course Credits: The Certified Lay Minister status is a lay status given to individuals who feel the calling to serve in the local church and beyond, though not in a clergy status.
