SUMMARY:Certified Lay Minister Course: Sacramental Training
DESCRIPTION:Learn the history of the celebration of the Holy Sacraments used in the Global Methodist Church and their origins as we take an in-depth look at the practices of worship in the serving of Holy Communion and Baptism. The course will consist of lectures and class discussions of the pre-class reading materials\, followed by an open Q&A. A reflection paper will be required after the class completion. \nThe Sacraments: Biblical\, Theological\, Historical\, and Practical Foundations. This course is designed to provide a comprehensive overview of the sacraments from a Methodist/Wesleyan perspective. The course will consist of lectures\, class discussions of the reading materials\, and open question & answer. A writing assignment based on the readings will be required. This course is being offered to all lay leaders and those serving congregations. Supply pastors and lay pastors are especially encouraged to attend this one-day course\, but it is open to all clergy and laity who desire a deeper understanding of the sacraments. \nCLM Course Credits: The Certified Lay Minister status is a lay status granted to individuals who feel called to serve in the local church and beyond\, though not in a clergy role. This course will be considered a specialized course for the Certified Lay Minister certification. You can learn more about the Certified Lay Minister program here. \nInstructor: Rev. Nashville: Discipleship Resources\, 2007.\nFelton\, Gayle Carlton. This Holy Mystery: A United Methodist Understanding of Holy Communion. Nashville: Discipleship Resources\, 2005.\nSelected readings from Scripture\nSelected readings on the sacraments from the GMC catechism\, the Book of Doctrines and Discipline\, and the newly-adopted GMC Articles of Faith\n\n*Participants will be given Scripture to read beforehand. \nRegistration: The cost is $20.00 and registration is open. We will accept same day walk-ins to the event and there is an option for financial assistance being offered. Be sure to download the course resources when you register. \n  \nNote: We will provide light snacks for breakfast and a working lunch. If you have special dietary restrictions\, please bring your own snacks and lunch. Coffee\, Water\, and soft drinks will be provided. Financial assistance is available.
