Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
We are less than two months away from the historic Convening Conference of the Global Methodist Church to be held in San Jose, Costa Rica, September 20-26. Around 350 delegates from 32 GMC conferences across the world will convene to officially form the GMC, discuss legislation, approve our Book of Doctrines and Discipline, and elect and consecrate six two-year interim bishops to assist Bishops Scott Jones and Mark Webb. Hundreds of others also will travel to Costa Rica to share in praise to God and the fellowship of warm-hearted Methodists from across the globe. The theme for General Conference expresses our part in God’s heart – So the World Will Know the love of God and his saving and sanctifying grace freely given through his Son, Jesus Christ.
Four ‘Concerts of Prayer’ have been scheduled in various regions of the MidSouth Conference in August as we are committed to intercede for the Spirit of God to move mightily throughout the GMC General Conference, across our streets, and around the world. You are encouraged to join your brothers and sisters at one of these locations:
Tri-Cities Area: Crossroads Methodist Church, 200 Bays Cove Trail, Kingsport, TN
Date: Saturday, August 10, 10 am
Knoxville Area: Alcoa Methodist Church, 617 Gilbert St., Alcoa, TN
Date: Sunday, August 11, 6 pm
Lexington Area – Trinity Hill Methodist Church, 3600 Tates Creek Rd, Lexington, KY
Date: Saturday, August 17, 10 am
Bowling Green Area – Christ Methodist Church, 716 Cave Mill Rd, Bowling Green, KY
Date: Sunday, August 18, 6 pm
At the MidSouth Provisional Annual Conference, twenty-four delegates (16 delegates, 4 alternates and 4 reserves) were elected to represent us at General Conference. Each is responsible for his/her own expenses (around $4500 for flights, housing, meals, etc.). No funds were provided for these 24 delegates through the MidSouth Conference budget. Local churches and individuals are asked to defray these expenses with generous donations that will be equally divided among the delegates who accept financial assistance. Checks should be made out to “MidSouth PAC,” designated “For 2024 GC Delegates,” and mailed to PO Box 23497, Lexington, KY. 40523. You may also donate online at midsouthgmc.org/giving/ by designating your donation to the “General Conference Delegates Support Fund” in the dropdown Fund menu.
Thank you for your partnership in the Gospel and your prayers. Praise God for the holy privilege it is to live and celebrate and serve together in this divine moment!
Mike Powers
