Farewell and Thank You to Rev. Amy Carlson, Director of Communications

Sometimes the right person comes along when least expected. Sometimes that person is thrust into a role unexpectedly. And sometimes we simply get blessed. With Amy, we got all three — she stepped into a volunteer role that grew into the position of Director of Communications for the MidSouth Annual Conference of the Global Methodist Church.

Like the rest of the Annual Conference, Amy was building the playbook even as she was building her own life and ministry — working to establish the channels needed to get information where it needed to go across our conference. Her passion for bringing others along has been evident throughout, most visibly in the Communications Team that has steadily grown under her leadership over the past several years. Anyone who has worked alongside Amy knows her infectious personality — she has a way of lifting and brightening a room simply by walking into it, which only enhanced her ability to effectively and efficiently communicate the needs of those around her.

A website, a newsletter, a podcast, press releases, and a fresh design identity — these are just a few of the marks Amy leaves on this position as she moves forward in her mission and ministry as co-founder and lead pastor of Our Story Church, a new church plant in Louisville, KY. As Conference Superintendent Rev. Dr. Todd Chancey put it, “Amy is exceptionally gifted and talented in many areas… establishing a strong foundation for communications across a wide range of media.” Amy’s shoes will not be easy to fill. She has shaped so much of how our community connects that her impact will long outlive her time in this role. (And that is just one thread of a much larger legacy).

Bob Cain, Secretary of the Communications Team says, “Amy has a way of both offering her own excellence and pulling the best up in others. She knows what it means to work and worship at the same time.” Her new endeavors will get to experience this first hand as she dedicates more of her time to local congregation. She has seen God at work up close and at this time feels it requires more of her time and attention in order to serve God and church adequately and passionately. We’ll close with a heartfelt word from Todd himself: “Amy, thank you for all you have done and for the many ways you have blessed the MidSouth Annual Conference. We are grateful for your ministry and friendship, and we look forward to seeing how God will continue to use you in the days ahead.”
