Dear Friends in Christ,
One of the greatest honors of my life was the endorsement as a nominee for the office of Interim Bishop by the MidSouth Annual Conference last summer. Today, the delegates at the Convening Conference of the GMC prayed and voted and decided that six others will be our interim episcopal leaders for the next two years.
During a prayer time with most of the candidates before voting began, I sensed that any 6 of the 22 candidates were capable of leading the GMC. The six elected are an African American, a Nigerian, a Congolese, two American women, one white American male. A common criticism of the GMC has been that it is simply a white, male-dominated, US-centric church. Not quite!
What a privilege it has been to share these amazing, glory-filled days with our devoted delegates. Their love and support for me and Sherry will be a treasured memory. Surely, the devotion, the fellowship, and the glory of God that has filled our worship and holy conferencing confirms that truly we are living in a divine moment.
Thanks be to God!
Mike
